Jenny's New Afternoon Stroll

Talented Jenny (who made the gorgeous version of Afternoon Stroll in pink and green posted a few weeks ago) has made another version of the doily, this time using a peach and brown color scheme.
I love seening how just changing the colors used gives it a whole new look!

New Designs

I know I have been pretty bad about posting lately, I am so sorry and will try to do better in the future. But, on the bright side, I have been crocheting!
Here is the infamous ruffled doily, all finished and nicely starched. And here is another doily that will go in the Ripples, Ruffles and Roses set. Here is the Angel of Love with her hair. But I still need to add beads to the doves for eyes. And here is the gift doily that will come with the Angel of Love (this has not been blocked yet)
And no, this is not a pin cushion (although it could be!) This is the first of a new series I am doing called Tea Cup Bouquets. This is the Springtime Bouquet. There will be others in this series for different seasons and holidays.
Each will be an arrangement of crocheted flowers in a tea cup, with a matching doily (I haven't made the doily for this one yet). I think it will look much better after it is assembled and the pins removed.
I am also working on a couple of yarn projects that I have not photographed yet.
And best of all, I have been working on a really big project, that I hope to announce in the next couple of weeks. It is not exactly a design, but it is something I have dreamed of for a long time. I will let you know more about it soon!

The Never Ending Doily

I started this doily last Friday. It went really quickly until I got to the last few rounds. When I started making the last two rounds of ruffles, work slowed to a crawl. I worked on the last round of edging most of the afternoon and I am only half way around it! It is for a set I am calling "Ripples, Ruffles and Roses." At this rate, this may be the only ruffled doily in the set. The hook has actually rubbed a blister on my finger, and I did not think that was possible at this point. I have had callouses on my fingers from the thread and hook since I was 18 (oh so long ago!)
Anyway, I really do love this doily, it reminds me of a tutu, so girly and pretty in pink. I just hope it is worth the pain!

Angel of Love Doily

Here is the "Angel of Love" doily in progress. Actually, all I have left is her hair (I always do the hair last, for some reason) and putting some eyes and bills on the little love birds. Poor thing, she looks so pitiful with that pin stuck in her head, doesn't she? (it wouldn't lay flat, it hasn't been blocked yet) But hopefully she will get some hair today. Then I can block her and glue her all together.
Would you believe there was a time when I would never dream of using glue on one of my designs? I sewed everything together, if I couldn't join as I went (what a pain that was, especially writing the patterns!) Then one day I realized just a tiny drop of glue could hold a small item better, and would actually show up less, than sewing it would. And sometimes, things that I sewed on went wonky on me, no matter how hard I tried to keep them straight! So I converted to glue, and have lived happily ever since. Well, as far as assembling doilies goes, anyway.

Time for Tea Set

It has taken me a lot longer to get the Time for Tea set ready for testing (about 2 weeks longer!) but I think I am almost there. I have spent this week working on the patterns and took some photos today. I think it is turning out really cute. Here is the set all together: It includes the Tea Pot and Tea Cup Wall Art, a Tea Cup Sachet and a Tea Pot Potpourri Bowl. This is the gift pattern that will come with purchase of the set. It was so much fun to make!
I am really loving these colors right now. They are Aqua, Orchid Pink and French Rose from Aunt Lydia. I want to use the Aqua with everything; a sunny yellow, a soft violet, more of the pinks and especially RED! I would love to do a whole set of doilies, using Aqua as the element that ties them all together. I think it would be a very cheerful and bright set!
Anyway, one more read through, and I am sending the Tea Set out for testing.
I have also been working on the Angel of Love doily, and will try to post a sneak peek picture sometime this weekend.

Pretty in Pink

The talented Jenny has done it again! Just look at her version of "Lucy and Jack's Afternoon Stroll"!Being the pink lover that I am, I literally squealed with delight when I saw her doily on Ravelry. I may have to make another version just like it. Oh, just look at Jack's green eye; perfect!

I love, love, love to see what talented crocheters like Jenny do with my designs. It is wonderful that just changing the colors gives a design a whole new look and feel.

Thanks for sharing your talent and brilliant eye for color, Jenny!

Woodland Fairy Is In My Etsy Shop

Deep in the forest, inside an old hollow log, there lives a tiny Woodland Fairy. She spends her days flying through the forest, keeping her watchful eye on all the plants and creatures who live there.
Her friend, the Dragonfly tries to keep up with her as she flits here and there, making sure all is well. She pauses to visit with another friend, a tiny snail. And together they admire a mystical toadstool ring, which has magically appeared overnight.

I have added the Woodland Fairy Doily to my Etsy shop. I hope you like her!

I would like to thank Marie Read, Jewel Fernley and Diana Mitchell for testing the Woodland Fairy and the Fairy Lace Doily patterns. I do not know how I ever got along without my testers!

Time for Tea

I'm a little Tea Pot, short and stout.(And I'm a little Tea Cup)
Here is my Handle, Here is my Spout.
When I get all steamed up, hear me shout:
"Just tip me over and pour me out!"

I have been working on a new pattern set this week (well, part of it is new, part of it is a re-worked version of some designs I did several years ago.) In addition to this "Tea Pot and Cup Wall Art" design, there will also be Tea Pot and Tea Cup Potpourri holders. I wanted to work on something besides doilies for a change, but now I can't wait to get this set done so I can get back to work on the "Angel of Love" doily!

Fairy Lace Doily

I am working on the pattern for the Fairy Lace Doily this afternoon. I took a few pictures to go in the pattern. I don't have any fairy figurines, which I guess would be the thing to place on it. But I do like how my unicorn, Violetta, looks on it.
And I think one of my Lefton hands looks pretty on it, too. This picture makes me think of the inside of a gypsy wagon (kind of bohemian.)
The photography I do is never exactly how I want it to be; I need better backgrounds and lighting. But I will keep working at it. At least I know how my designs should look, so I will just keep trying.

Thank you

I want to thank everyone for your kind comments and the emails you sent after my last post. Working at home as I do, I sometimes feel isolated and alone. It is wonderful to know that I have so many lovely friends and supporters!
From the bottom of my heart, I thank you all.
Love,
Ann

So Far...

I know you don't come to this blog to hear about my problems, but I just want to let you know that so far, 2010 has been a pretty rough year for my family and me. I have not been able to get much work done, and I don't know when I will be able to get back on track. I will be going out of town again in the morning and I am not sure when I will be back. I still do not have the Woodland Fairy doily ready for testing.
But crochet is not only my career, it is also my comforter and sanity-saver, so I am sure I will be picking something up to work on whenever I can.
I will talk to you when I get back. Take care.
Love,
Ann

New items in my Etsy shop

I have added three new patterns to my Etsy shop.
First is the "Ring Around the Rosie" baby blanket, hat and slippers set: The hat and booties can be made in either Newborn-3 months or 6 months size.
Next is the "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" baby blanket, hat and booties set:

And finally, the "Sedona Wrap":

I am working hard on the Woodland Fairy doily so I can get it out to be tested as soon as possible. And I have finished the background for the next Lovely Ladies doily, which will be called "Angel of Love." I will post a picture of it later this week.

Gourmet Crochet Blog

If you are a fan of Carolyn Christmas, or love cool and unique crochet designs, you will want to check out Carolyn's wonderful new blog at: http://gourmetcrochet.blogspot.com/
Starting today (Tuesday), she will be posting a different afghan block daily. The finished blocks will be assembled into an afghan called “Variations on a Theme,” and should be amazing.
Carolyn is an awesome designer, and I am fortunate to have her as a friend. She has given me so much wonderful advice over the years, and has always encouraged me to grow as a designer. I know anything she designs is going to be beautiful!

Fairy Lace Doily

I just finished this little sweet little doily; I am calling it "Fairy Lace." It will be the free gift pattern with purchase of the "Woodland Fairy" doily. I wanted to call it "Woodland Lace" but I think there is already an old vintage doily with that name. I wanted something delicate and lacy to contrast with the more solid Woodland Fairy.
I have not blocked it yet, but right now it is about 11" across.
I am pleased with how it turned out. What do you think?

Happy New Year!

Woodland Fairy Sneak Peek

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas! I had a lovely time with my family, and it even snowed on Christmas Eve (which is very rare here in East Texas!) It didn't stick, but we all had fun running around in it trying to make snow balls off of what landed on the cars. I am back at home now, and hard at work on my Woodland Fairy. There has been some debate over whether she is a fairy or an elf. I think she must be a Fairy because she has wings. What do you think?
The pictures are not so good; it is dark and gloomy here today, and she is still in pieces on my blocking board (a cardboard box covered in plastic wrap!) But I hope this will give you an idea of what she will look like when she is finished: I have put lots of time into the details on this one, I must have made 20 snails before I got one I like. I really like her ears, although the first ones I made looked like horns! Adding the hair makes them look better.

I hope you like her!

Have a very Happy (and safe) New Year!

Love Was Born at Christmas

Love came down at Christmas;
Love all lovely, love divine;
Love was born at Christmas,
Stars and angels gave the sign.

Super Quick and Easy Scarflette: A free crochet pattern for you

It is less than a week until Christmas! Are you ready yet? If you are like me, you probably have a gift or two that you still need to buy, but with time or money (or both) running out, what's a girl to do? I have an idea that just might come in handy in the last minute gift department.

This is my "Super Quick and Easy Scarflette." It is made with bulky yarn and a size K hook, so it works up very quickly. I made this version in under an hour, fringe and all. But if you are not into fringe, you can omit it, and be done even quicker. I think this version is more my style:
I love this old Sarah Coventry pin; it reminds me of my mother.
And you can wear it lots of different ways, too: A sophisticated, Audrey Hepburn-ish way to wear a Scarflette.
You can make a couple of them from one skein of Homespun yarn, so it is pretty economical as well (I would never call any thing I made "cheap"!!!!)

Super Quick and Easy Scarflette
by Elizabeth Ann White
for BellaCrochet

Size: About 6” x 27”, excluding fringe
Materials:
3 oz. Bulky weight yarn (Homespun from Lion Brand Yarns was used for model)
Size K crochet hook
Gauge:
5 dc = 2”
5 dc rows = 4 1/2”
Row 1: Ch 17, dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in each ch across, turn. (First 3 chs count as first dc; 15 dc made)
Rows 2-30: Ch 3, dc in each st across, turn. At end of last row, fasten off. (15 dc in each row)
Fringe (optional)
Note: Fringe is worked in ends of rows on one side of Scarflette.
For each Fringe, cut 2 strands of yarn, each 12” long. Holding both strands together as one, fold strands in half. Insert fold in end of first row on one side of Scarflette. Pull fold about 3” through sp, insert ends of strands through fold. Pull ends to tighten. Fringe in end of each row across same side of Scarflette.
Now here is a super quick and easy way to make the fringe:

Measure around a dvd case or book to find one which has a circumference (I hope that is the correct word; I mean the measurement around it) equal to the length you want your fringe to be:We want each strand of our fringe to be 12" long, so this case will work nicely. Plus this is my favorite Christmas movie, so it I can watch it while I work! Wrap the yarn the number of times needed for the amount of Fringe you will need. We are putting two strands in the end of each row. There are 30 rows, so we will need to wrap the yarn 60 times around the case. Spread it out evenly, and don't wrap it too tightly.

Now cut the strands as evenly as possible. You can always trim the fringe after it is on the Scarflette if it looks too uneven.

Fold two stands of the cut yarn together for each fringe. Pull the fold through the end of the row with your hook. You will actually be working around the post of the last stitch on each row.

Pull the fold out a little.

Insert the ends of the fringe through the fold.

Pull the ends to tighten the fringe.

Here is another way to wear the Scarflette.

If you wanted to, you could sew 3 buttons to the Scarflette, and just push them through the stitches for buttonholes:
I hope you will enjoy this pattern. Merry Christmas!
