Trick or Treat Doily: A Free Crochet Pattern For You

Several years ago I designed the Trick or Treat Doily as the gift pattern that came with the purchase of my Stella Luna Doily. It was not the design I had originally planned to create, but my first  idea just didn't want to work out for me.  After almost a week of frustration, I finally gave up on it and started a new design. The second doily seemed to flow easily, and Trick or Treat was born. You can read about how it came to be here:
The Doily That Got Away
But when the patterns were released, much to my surprise, Trick or Treat began to take on a life of its own, and was actually much more popular than Stella Luna. People began to ask if I would sell it as a single pattern, and it quickly became one of my best sellers.
Today, I am pleased to offer it to you as a free pattern.
I hope you will find it a 'treat' and not a 'trick' to create!

Hi Ann, I just love this doily! I'm not that much into Halloween, but I would love to crochet this doily using brown thread instead of black, for a more Fall-oriented look instead. Just wanted to pass this idea on in case anyone else wants to try it. I think it would look very lovely. I have arthritis in my hands & don't do much thread crochet anymore, but am very tempted to try making this as it is so lovely. ((Crochet Hugs)), Gina

That is an excellent suggestion, Gina! Honestly, the only thing that makes this doily Halloweenish is the name and the colors used. I hope everyone will make it using whatever colors best work for them. I think it would make an amazing Christmas doily worked in red, green and white!

My first thought was "WOW! This is gorgeous!". I have many of your patterns and love every one of them. Can't wait to do this one. And so many color combinations for different holidays. Besides the ones already mentioned, I thought red, white and blue for patriotic holidays, and pink, purple and yellow for Easter. OOOOOOH, I can't wait to start on this one. Thanks for such a great pattern!!!

Hi. I think I may try doing this in white, light-grey and silver and use it to create dreamcatcher. Wish me luck as I will need it. I am total beginner and cannot read patterns yet ;)

I just completed this great pattern in violet, lavender and black for Halloween because I don't have any orange thread. Turned out beautiful! I thought red, white and blue would make a nice combination as well.
