Crocheting Birds and a Friday Contest

My granddaughter Ana sent me a letter a few weeks ago. She is in the choir at her school, and they are selling subscriptions to magazines in order to raise money for a trip. While I was trying to make up my mind what to order, one title caught my eye; "Birds and Blooms." I seem to remember my mother used to subscribe to this magazine years ago, so I ordered it (along with another year of 'Southern Living') hoping it will give me some inspiration for a new set of doilies.
I have been really wanting to design more doilies featuring birds and flowers (with some butterflies thrown in  for good measure.) I will call the set 'Birds, Blossoms, and Butterflies' or "Flora and Fauna' or something like that.
It kind of surprised me when I went back through my patterns and realized how many doilies featuring birds I have already made:

But,  it is Friday, so how about a contest? I will give one person their choice of any PDF pattern on my site, bellacrochet.com.

I will select the winner at random, and send out the patterns in the morning (Saturday.) I will post the name of the winner here, so be sure to check back in the morning to see if you won.

Also, if you post anonymously, please be sure I have a way to identify you (at least give your first name or a nick name in your comment; I have no way of knowing who is posting.)
To enter, just leave a comment answering this question:
Do you have a favorite bird? If so, what is it?

This contest is now closed.
Please check back next Friday for my weekly contest.

  1. It is so hard to choose "a" bird. I love chickadees for their sauciness, cardinals for their songs, orioles for their plumage, hummingbirds for their compulsiveness and mourning doves for their gentleness. If I have to pick just one, it would be the cardinal. We have them all over the place here and they sing and sing.

  2. I have 2 favorites, The American Bald Eagle and the teeny weeny little Hummingbirds. Hmmm, that reminds me, I need to refill the Hummingbird Feeder, LOL.

    Have a wonderful day!

  3. I would say my favorite is a hummingbird. We have a hummingbird feeder by our porch and I love sitting there watching in amazement at how fast their wings flap.

  4. we do not get many pretty birds here in the UK, just the usual sparrow, starling, blue tit, robin and here by the sea lots of seagulls.

my favorite bird is the Robin but sadly do not see very many here on the east coast

  6. I just love your doily patterns. So I must enter here.
My favorite bird is the kookaburra - as I love their laughing. I was so amazed by their laughing sound and seeing them as a 15 year old girl in Australia - they just kept in my mind.
I send lots of nice regards from Germany to you.

  7. My favorite bird is my pet Lovey-Dovey, a ringnecked dove. He was an escaped or released pet who chose me by whom to be rescued and he has been an unending source of amusement for the past 4 years now. Among his wild cousins, my favorites are the tiny ones... the song sparrow, the chickadee, and the gold finch... oh gosh, I really just love them all....

  9. I especially like the canaries, but I do not have because I prefer to see the birds fly free, rather than in a cage.marid88

  23. I saw a picture the other day of a beautiful little bird that looked as if it was actually wearing a crown on it's head of feathers. I have no idea what it was but it was gorgeous. I am also a fan of peacocks, especially white peacocks.
