Personally, I've never won a contest - unless you count a short story competition when I was 11 :)
ReplyDeleteMy husband however won two tickets to Riverdance (which we gave to friends who were big fans) by answering (on the radio) "What is it that 90% of men say they have done, and 90% of women say they haven't?" The answer was "wiring a plug". I'm glad I'm in the 10% that has - I do have some practical skills as well as my crafting :)
I won a Window painting contest in our small town in NJ it was a Harvest theme.. My friend actually did most of the work. But We won first place. We won a gift certificate. I let her keep because she deserved it more than I did.

ReplyDeleteI did win a contest, but it was some time ago when I was around 10 years old. My music teacher entered me in a talent contest held at a local movie theater and I played an accordian solo. I won cash and bought the most beautiful taffeta dress. I kept the dress for a long time, but it eventually started falling apart.

ReplyDeleteAbout 30 yrs ago (when the boys were growing up) the brand of shampoo we were using had a giveaway. If you found a diamond shaped piece of plastic in your shampoo bottle with a letter on top it was a winner. The prize was a 1 carat diamond necklace appraised at 1,000.00. One Sunday morning while getting ready for church one of the boys gave me an empty bottle and said it had something stuck in the bottom. I put a little water in it and shook it. I could hear it rattle in the bottle. I poured the contents out into my hand OVER an open sink. It had the diamond shaped object in it and it had the letter on top. IT WAS A WINNER! I truly don't know why it didn't just go down the sink!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was about 13, I won a door prize at the Home and Trade show, a five foot aluminum stepladder! My Dad was thrilled and had to go pick it up the same day! Lol

ReplyDeleteAt first I thought I won maths contest when I was about twelve (I got a book about animals) but after a while I realized that I didn't won - I was second. So unfortunatelly I must say I have never won. I hope that it will change.
