Recently, Diana Dwyer sent me these pictures of the Ruby's Valentine Doily that she had made. I loved her use of colors in the doily! She explained how she came to use this particular combination:

Diana says:
I couldn’t wait to try this pattern, so I went into
my "stash" of thread. I thought I’d have enough of the candy pink to do it, but after the
flower, I knew better. So I went back to my stash and found I had little bit left of 2
other pink shades. I didn't want it to look like I ran out of thread so this is what I came up with.
You did a beautiful job, Diana!
I will select the winner at random, and send out the patterns in the morning (Saturday.) I will post the name of the winner here, so be sure to check back in the morning to see if you won. If I do not hear back from the winner within 7 days, I will select a new winner. Failure to contact me within 7 days will result in the forfeiture of all prizes.
Also, if you post anonymously, please be sure I have a way to identify you (at least give your first name or a nick name in your comment; I have no way of knowing who is posting.) You can also leave your email address with your comment so I can notify you if you win, but this is optional.
To enter, just leave a comment here on the blog answering this question:
Do you usually use the colors called for in a pattern, or do you like to change things up and select your own color scheme?
This contest is now closed, please stop by again soon!
OH, wonderful doily! A pattern and a colour choice are stunning!
ReplyDeleteI usualy pick my own colours.
I almost always choose my own colors.
ReplyDelete99% of the time I choose my own colors and hook size.
ReplyDeleteI usually use the specified colors if I have them. If not, I choose similar ones
ReplyDeleteI usually choose my own colors, but occasionally, I like the suggestions if I'm feeling less than creative. =) Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteI usually like to choose my own color scheme.
ReplyDeleteI like to try different colors... especially bright and contrasting ones... Divonna Thornburg. (divonna@live.com)
ReplyDeleteDepends on who/what I'm making it for. I always love your color choices, so with your patterns I'd be less likely to change anything!
ReplyDeleteI usually go to my stash(craft stores are a good distance from my house)I will get as close as possible most of the time-
ReplyDeletesince craft stores are not to close(35 minute drive)I will usually get as close as I can with what I have on hand-or if I'm making it for someone elsa-I will try to get their color scheme-Diana dwyer
ReplyDeleteI hardly ever use the color/color scheme in patterns I make. I love arranging the colors to suit my style and my surroundings!
ReplyDeleteI rarely have access to the colours and threads suggested so I usually make it up as I go. I'm not very good at visualising how the colours will go together so it's a bit hit and miss, but more hits so far, thankfully!
ReplyDeleteI always use the colours I have in my stash. If I have the colours that are used in the pattern and they are the one's I also like, I use them. Here in The Netherlands we don't have much choise because crocheing doily's is old fashioned. Greetings Joke.
ReplyDeleteI like to choose my own colours usually but sometimes I copy the colour used in the design because it just looks so good.
ReplyDeleteIf I like the colors I will follow the pattern, otherwise I use what I have. denise50fritz@hotmail.com
ReplyDeleteI try to use the thread that I already have in my stash, so I usually try to match my own colors. I make most of my doilies with ecru or white thread only though. I love the pinks doily that Diana made and would like to try one with similar colors. Thanks, Susan N.
ReplyDeleteI usually choose my own colors and select colors according to the occasion or the person I'm making that item for :) ...
ReplyDeleteI like to choose my own colors, since I'll be making it for my home.....but there are cases when the colors for the pattern shown, would be perfect for holidays , like thr Valentine doily. I always make the doilies the colors my friends and family prefer.....
ReplyDeleteMartha
